Check Out One Of The New Songs From Frozens Broadway Musical

While Disney has had massive success adapting its animated catalog into live-action features, that's not the only place the studio recreates success. They also have created some of the biggest Broadway shows in recent memory. Following shows like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, Frozen is the next Disney hit to grace the Broadway stage and the production has just dropped one of the brand new songs that has been added for the stage. Give a listen to "Monster."

The tweet sent out by Disney Music is only a small taste of the brand new song. However, it includes links to Spotify and Apple Music, where the complete song is available to for listening. "Monster" is sung by Elsa and appears to be set after Elsa and accidentally frozen her sister's heart. She's sitting in her ice castle wondering if she is truly a monster. Meanwhile, Hans is bringing a team up the mountain, they call for the return of summer as they march, to confront the queen. It's actually a fairly dark song, as Elsa seems to contemplate that she might need to kill herself, as it's the only way she can think of that will free the world of her power. She'd rather die than be a monster. One assumes that the arrival of Hans and company ends up putting a stop to these plans.

Clearly, the Broadway show is looking to make Frozen a bit of a more mature story. The original Frozen was a movie that any age could enjoy, but it's unlikely that Disney would have wanted an indication of suicide in its animated holiday movie. For whatever it's worth, the youngest kids who fell in love with Frozen in the theater are a bit older now, so when they insist their parents take them to the stage version, this hopefully won't be too much.

Broadway musicals tend to have many more songs than their big screen counterparts, so a few new songs were going to be needed to fill out the stage production. "Monster" is written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, the same songwriting team that created the music for the movie, this adds a very useful continuity of music.

The release of "Monster" comes with the official debut of Frozen on Broadway. The show is now playing in New York City following a run in Denver, Colorado, which was used a place to preview and polish the show. Will Frozen be as big a Broadway hit as The Lion King was? It's far to early to tell, but so far the music sounds pretty good. Though, it's difficult to imagine that "Monster" will become anywhere as popular as "Let it Go."

At this point, Jordan Peele has risen as one of the most promising and intriguing filmmakers in Hollywood. The blockbuster box office debut of Get Out made him a hot commodity for studios, and his Oscar win offered him unprecedented prestige as he moved into his next endeavors. Speaking of which, we finally have more information about one specific project that Peele reportedly wants to take on in the future, as the Key & Peele star allegedly wants to adapt the classic Gargoyles cartoon into a film for Disney.

It's no secret that Disney has spent quite a bit of time digging through its vault to update some classic pieces of intellectual property in recent years. On the heels of successful remakes like The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, Jordan Peele now wants to take the house of mouse in a slightly darker direction. Per a report from The Ankler, Peele has expressed interest in getting his hands on Gargoyles and adapting the cult classic cartoon to the big screen. Peele has reportedly pitched the idea to Disney, but the studio is apparently moving slowly with regards to whether or not it actually wants to buy into the idea.

Arguably obscure to some generations (at least by comparison to classic 1990s animation like Batman: The Animated Series or X-Men), Gargoyles remains a touchstone of 1990s cartoons that a lot of millennials will likely remember. Decidedly dark for a 1990s Disney cartoon, the show focused its story on a group of supernatural gargoyles who come to life at night to battle evil and cope with an ungrateful New York that neither likes nor understands them. The show ran for 78 episodes between 1994 and 1997, so there's plenty of pre-existing material for Jordan Peele to mine if he ever actually gets his hands on the property.

One notable element worth addressing about Jordan Peele's possible move to a Gargoyles adaptation for the folks at Disney is how much of a logical next step this feels like for him at this stage of his career. Peele made a name for himself as a dramatic filmmaker last year with the blockbuster debut of Get Out and his Oscar win, which opened up a lot of doors. Peele's work on Get Out showed how effective he could operate in dealing with weighty topics like racism, and weighty themes are also prevalent in the Gargoyles lore. The IP definitely seems to be a fit for Jordan Peele's established wheelhouse of strengths.

Only time will tell if Jordan Peele will ever actually get to direct a Gargoyles movie for Disney. That said, it's an intriguing concept, and we will bring you more information related to this story as it develops. For now, Jordan Peele's next movie gig is going to be the movie US, and the project has already added Black Panther's Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke, so it could be a while before any decision is made on what comes after.

It's an unconfirmed report, but if it's true, then we could have our best chance ever at finally seeing Disney do something with their most underutilized IP.

Pacific Rim: Uprising makes a lot of changes to the first movie by focusing on a lot of brand new characters. The first movie saw Charlie Hunnam in the lead but the sequel will see an entirely new character played by John Boyega take center stage. A few characters from the original Pacific Rim will be back for the sequel but apparently, there were originally plans for a lot more. Writer and director Steven S. DeKnight recently revealed that there were plans to bring back Ron Perlman's Hannibal Chau, as well as a handful of other characters from the original film. According to DeKnight...

I had actually written a cameo for Ron Pearlman but the scheduling didn't work out, but you know, there are so many great characters in the first movie. There's Max Martini as Herc Hansen. At one point he had a really nice role and I had to change the story. At one point he was the Marshall and that got changed and of course, I'd love to bring back Tendo (Choi played by Cliff Collins Jr.) for the movie, but ultimately I was trying to take all of these characters and give them a little something in the movie. Then the movie got so big I just had to tear it back.

The Pacific Rim sequel was originally going to look a lot more like the original movie than it has ended up looking. Guillermo del Toro had been trying to make the sequel happen himself for a long time but when the production finally moved forward, it was without him as director. Charlie Hunnam was interested in returning as the lead, but a scheduling conflict prevented that from happening. It seems that continuity with the first film was going to be found by bringing in other characters instead, but in many ways that didn't work out.

Steven DeKinight tells ScreenRant that Ron Perlman, like Charlie Hunnam, just couldn't make the schedule work. Max Martini, who played "Herc" Hansen in Pacific Rim was originally going to have an important role, as the new Marshall, the position held by Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost in the first movie, however, his role ended up being eliminated through script rewrites. Cliffton Collins Jr. was also going to come back as Tendo Choi, but it sounds like there wasn't really enough for him to do, making it not worth it to bring him back.

Pacific Rim: Uprising won't be entirely without returning characters. Charlie Day and Burn Gorham will both be back as the pair of squabbling scientists and Rinko Kikuchi will be back as Mako Mori, who stole the show in the original movie. Pacific Rim: Uprising arrives in theaters March 23.




Pacific Rim Uprising initially included more cameos by supporting characters from the first movie, according to its director Steven S. DeKnight. The original Pacific Rim was Guillermo del Toro's attempt to put a fresh spin on the giant mecha and monster subgenre, and grossed $411 million worldwide for its efforts - with the caveat that it cost $190 million to produce.
