The Russo Brothers Worked With Captain Marvel Team To Create Brie Larson's Character

Last month, Captain Marvel debuted in theaters, introducing audiences worldwide to Brie Larson's Carol Danvers. Fans won't have to wait long at all to see her again as she'll be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame as a crucial piece of the film. Despite the fact that Captain Marvel arrived in theaters first, Larson's first time playing the character was actually in Endgame. Thus, she had to work closely with both the Russo Brothers and her Captain Marvel co-directors, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, to nail her character down.

Marvel Studios has been hyping up Captain Marvel for years and she didn't disappoint when she finally arrived in March. The film has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, and the character looks to have left a positive impression on the fanbase. Marvel will be bringing her photon blasts straight to Thanos' doorstep in Endgame, where much purple face punching will happen.

Because Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame filmed back-to-back, Brie Larson's first time playing Carol Danvers was in the Endgame. There wasn't a script for either Endgame or Captain Marvel at the time, so Larson had to figure out the character from scratch. Luckily, she had the help of the Russo Bros., Boden, and Fleck, which was a prime example of Marvel collaboration, according to Joe Russo.

A lot of it was working with [Ryan] Fleck and [Anna] Boden as they were developing [Captain Marvel]. As far as Marvel is a relay race where people are handing the baton off to each other, that was as collaborative an effort as weve had introducing a new character. Whereas with Black Panther and Spider-Man, we were making those choices exclusively because there were no future films in the works yet.

Joe Russo told Mashable that he and his brother Anthony worked closely with the Captain Marvel directors to make sure that the character translated the same in both films. Collaboration is no strange thing at Marvel Studios. Directors often work with each other to make sure all of the individual character's traits and quirks ring true during crossovers.

One example of how Captain Marvel is different in Endgame is that she's a bit more glammed up than she was in her solo movie. While fans originally wondered if that was just the effect of male directors being in charge, Joe Russo clarified that it was Larson who ultimately decided how her character would look in the film.

Fans are no doubt excited to see Carol interact with the Avengers and they don't have to wait much longer. Avengers: Endgame is all set to arrive in theaters on April 26. Chris Hemsworth has been a part of the MCU as Thor since 2011, and while he's surely had a lot of fun in his solo romps, the actor claimed his favorite on-set moment happened with the rest of his friends in The Avengers original six. Hemsworth recalled a time he was attempting to film a scene with the rest of his co-stars, but all they were succeeding in was awakening director Joss Whedon's fury.

I think it was on Avengers 1 or 2 where it was the original six trying to get -- where we had one line each in the scene, pretty simple thing, and we just couldn't get it together. We just kept cracking up and laughing. And then Joss Whedon, who was directing, was just exhausted and was just getting angrier and angrier. But the angrier he got, the funnier it got. It was like being back in high school. It was one of those moments where you're like, nothing's changed. No matter what age you're at or what point of life, there's that inherent quality to when you're not supposed to laugh, you laugh even more.

Chris Hemsworth couldn't remember the exact movie or scene -- whether from The Avengers or Avengers: Age of Ultron -- but apparently Joss Whedon's anger and the humor from it has stuck with him for quite a long time. It must've been quite a moment if it overshadowed some of the hilarity that had to have taken place on Taika Waititi's set on Thor: Ragnarok, although it's completely understandable. Who can deny that one of the times it's hardest not to laugh is when you're in a situation where you explicitly shouldn't?

Even if he pissed off Joss Whedon with his castmates a time or two in the past, Chris Hemsworth says he has no regrets about his ride thus far. The actor told MTV he wouldn't change a thing about his time in the MCU even if he could, and mentioned he feared if he did it would alter the course that it's presently on.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but Chris Hemsworth talking about time travel and implications of changing the future of the MCU could point to him spending too much time on the Avengers: Endgame set. After all, time travel has been speculated and teased to play a decent role in the plot, and it was a weird way to answer a question when time travel doesn't ultimately exist.

Conspiracy theories aside, it sounds like Chris Hemsworth has a lot of laughs and love for his time spent in the MCU. Whether that will be enough to keep him in the world following Avengers: Endgame is another question, as we're still not sure what Thor's fate will be in the movie. Hemsworth is also not officially on board for any future Thor films, although has hinted he'd be up for returning.

What BD Wong Is Actually Doing In Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, According To New Trailer

With all of the action packed into yesterday's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer, the briefest of glimpses involving B.D. Wong's Dr. Henry Wu had folks wondering just how he'd play into the film's plot. While it was known that his laboratory skills would be involved in what looks like a plot involving dinosaur creation and proliferation, to what extent his magic would be worked was a bit unknown. So leave it to a new, extended trailer for the film to tell us that Dr. Wu himself is the architect behind the Indoraptor.

In the middle of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's partially new showcase of footage, a lot of attention is paid to the fact that Blue's extraction is part of the Indoraptor's genesis. This leads to the inclusion of a moment where Dr. Wu states that he created "this animal" himself, which all but confirms that this beast is more than likely the one that Vic Hoskins pointed out in the control room during his pre-death spiel in Jurassic World's third act. However, it's Rafe Spall's villainous character Mills who seems to be the one who wants to move ahead with the weaponizing and selling of these dinosaurs. Which is fair, considering how B.D. Wong's legacy character from Jurassic Park has always been about the creation aspect, while keeping a cursory glance on the business and applications end.

Dr. Henry Wu and Mills' intentions come through pretty clearly through the latter's pitch to Claire Dearing and her Dinosaur Protection Group, as he really sells the fact that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's dinosaurs need to be "preserved." But, of course, "preserved" doesn't always mean alive, intact, or in good health. With all of these dinosaurs and their DNA specimens at his disposal, Mills could make an army of dinosaur hybrids, courtesy of Dr. Henry Wu's mad science. Of course, the two will have to agree on their common purpose, and they'll need to survive the rampage of the Indoraptor -- which is surprisingly absent from this trailer. Take a look for yourself at this new round of excitement, below.

From a fan's standpoint, this new Chinese market trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom plays so much better than yesterday's domestic trailer. It teases the viewer more in terms of how the film will play out, and doesn't show off too much of the Indoraptor. And even better, seeing B.D. Wong's surviving baddie showing off just how Jurassic World will tie into its sequel is a good bridge for folks who really enjoyed that first film, but may not be totally sold on why Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom deserves their attention. You could say, this trailer was designed to Wu fans back for more.

Puns aside, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will stomp onto theater screens on June 22nd. But don't let that stop you from looking toward the future for more fun at the movies, as you can consult our 2018 release schedule to see what else is on the horizon.

Each role brings its own set of challenges, but playing a despicable figure from real life can be especially difficult. That's what Topher Grace had to deal with when he was cast as former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke in Black KkKlansman. It's no easy feat getting into the headspace of one of history's most famous white supremacists, so after his time on the Spike Lee movie was over, Grace decided to unwind and mentally distance himself from the Duke role by cutting together a two-hour version of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy. Grace voiced his thoughts on how The Hobbit adaptation should have been put together thusly:

Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy each received its own movie, The Hobbit, the novel that launched the Middle Earth mythology, was stretched out to three movies, a.k.a. 434 minutes of screen time. The end result was certainly a financial success, adding up to $2.9 billion worldwide, but critically, The Hobbit trilogy wasn't met with the same level of praise as the Lord of the Rings movies. Grace decided to piece together a "tighter" version of The Hobbit as a creative challenge, and it sounds like he was pleased with the end result. Continuing in his interview with Indiewire, the actor said:

I don't know what other guys do. Go fishing? For me, this is just a great way to relax. There's something really zen about it.

This isn't Topher Grace's first time editing together his own cut of a blockbuster franchise. Back in 2012, he made an 85-minute version of the Star Wars prequel trilogy and showed to some industry professionals before legal restrictions put the kibosh on future screenings. It's also worth noting that Grace isn't the first person to edit together a condensed version of The Hobbit, although the previous fan version released in 2015 was four hours long, making Grace's version an easier watch. Though if his experience with the Star Wars prequels cut is any indication, don't expect Grace to ever release his Hobbit cut to the public.
