Is John Cena Joining Fast And Furious 9? Heres What Vin Diesel Says

Could John Cena be joining the upcoming Fast and Furious 9? Thats a question thats actually worth talking about this week, as longtime series actor Vin Diesel shared a fun video nodding at Paul Walker and the changing nature of the franchise. Then, John Cena pops in, seemingly teasing a working partnership coming up.

But don't take my word for it. Take a look below.

Watching the clip, Vin Diesel talks specifically about Paul Walker and the long-running Fast franchise, noting that its a big responsibility to keep things moving. At the end, John Cena pops in, waving and winking at fans. While we cant 100% say this is teasing something coming up in the universe, it would make sense.

After all with Hobbs & Shaw coming out this year, theres a good chance that Fast and Furious 9 will inject some new blood into the franchise thanks to likely losing Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. This is particularly true if Hobbs & Shaw does well at the box office, leading to the possibility of sequels for the spinoff. (Which would likely be a good thing for all parties, given some cast members werent happy about the spinoff at all.)

Fast and Furious franchise fans know that Paul Walker was called Pablo by his friends and, in the video, Vin Diesel waxes poetic about his former pal. Walker played Brian OConner in the series for years before his untimely death in 2013 at the age of 40. He had mostly completed work on Furious 7 when a single-vehicle collision ultimately killed him.

Before John Cena ultimately pops up in Vin Diesels Instagram video, Diesel notes:

As you know Im always thinking fast and thinking about the responsibility and making something iconic and deserving of your loyalty. I know this sounds crazy but every blue moon I feel like Pablo up there sends me someone, another soldier for the fight for truth. And today someone came by our Toretto gym that speaks to what Pablo would have brought.

As evidenced in the video and with the quote, John Cena happened to be on the premises. However, given the status of Fast and Furious 9, it wouldnt be a huge surprise if he were added to the mix sometime before production really gets off of the ground.

Either way, this video should be a fun one for wrestling fans.

As a side note, production on Fast and Furious 9 was supposed to start back in February, but was then delayed until April of 2019. Recently, Vin Diesel also shared an image with costume designer Sanja Hays, indicating the movie was close to getting off of the ground on April 18.

Meanwhile, John Cena just turned 42 and has been busy sharing words about never giving up and capitalizing on opportunities.

This likely has nothing to do with Fast 9, but the timing is still incredibly fortuitous for all of this, given Fast and Furious 9 is moving forward and John Cena is hellbent on pushing out as many projects as he can right now.

Coming up on just the big screen, the actor has The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, Project X-Traction, Playing with Fire, and The Janson Directive. In the franchise realm, John Cena has also been rumored for James Gunns The Suicide Squad.

Butch Cassidy And Princess Bride Writer William Goldman Has Died At 87

William Goldman was probably my favorite writer in the world, though I had never met him. The prolific author and screenwriter is still part of the cultural lexicon, although some of his biggest movies came out decades ago. Tragically, this week William Goldman passed away at his home in Manhattan. He was 87 years of age at the time of his death.

News that William Goldman had died broke Friday, but the Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid Oscar winner reportedly died at his home on Thursday. His family and friends were present and his death wasn't sudden. Deadline reports he had not been well for some time and that his health had begun to fail sometime over the summer this year.

His partner Susan Burden told the NY Times that he had colon cancer and pneumonia at the time of his death.

There have been myriad screenwriters in Hollywood over the years, but not nearly as many are able to make quite the impact that William Goldman did. The man was an Oscar winner not once but twice, nabbing the coveted statue for both the aforementioned Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All The President's Men.

He possibly most famously wrote the novel The Princess Bride: S. Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure in 1973. More than a decade later, Rob Reiner enlisted him to write the screenplay for The Princess Bride. The movie would not go on to do big business at the box office despite positive reviews; nonetheless, it is a classic comedy over 30 years later. In 2016 that movie was inducted in the National Film Registry, joining the likes of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (joined 2003).

William Goldman would recall in a book by Richard Andersen that he had gotten more mail about The Princess Bride than any of his other projects combined, noting his fans wrote "all kinds of strange outpouring letters."

It wasn't just those projects that are fan favorites. Many of William Goldman's other screenplays are well-remembered. He penned Chaplin, the 1992 film that landed Robert Downey Jr. an Oscar nod. He also wrote the 1975 screenplay for The Stepford Wives. Beyond that, he was the talent behind Heat, Misery, Marathon Man, The Ghost and the Darkness, and Hearts in Atlantis.

In the business he was a juggernaut with a career spanning decades beginning in the 1960s. He continued working into the early 21st Century with Hearts in Atlantas (2001) and Dreamcatcher (2003).

Yet, in this moment it's The Princess Bride that is still striking and not because of the Sicilian's laughter or the R.O.U.S.' but for one small, profound quote he wrote: "Life isn't fair, it's just fairer than death, that's all."

2017 was an impressive year for adaptations of Stephen King stories. Sure The Dark Tower underwhelmed critically and communally and The Mist was canceled after just one season, but those were outweighed by the cinematic versions of IT, Gerald's Game and 1922, as well as the Mr. Mercedes TV series. And the Stephen King adaptation train isn't stopping anytime soon, with one of the upcoming projects being Pet Sematary, which was previously made into a movie back in 1989. We've now learned that John Lithgow is joining the new movie as Jud Crandall, one of the original novel's most important characters.

John Lithgow is the second actor to be added to the Pet Sematary remake, as Jason Clarke was previously cast to play Doctor Louis Creed, the main character who becomes friends with neighbor Jud Crandall. Lithgow inherits the role from The Munsters actor Fred Gwynne, who played Jud in 1989's Pet Sematary. The remake is being directed by Starry Eyes' Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, with Nightyflyers' Jeff Buhler having written the script. EW also noted in its report that coincidentally, Lithgow recently played Winston Churchill in Netflix's The Crown, and the name of the cat that comes back to life in Pet Sematary is named Church, short for Churchill.

Published in 1983, Pet Sematary follows Doctor Louis Creed moving to the small town of Ludlow with his wife, two children and their cat. After striking up a friendship with Jud Crandall, the old-timer shows Louis and his family the cemetery where the town buries its pets. However, later in the story, following the death of Church the cat, Jud shows Louis an area beyond the pet "sematary": a burial ground used by Native Americans that brings whatever is buried there back to life. Unfortunately, the animals resurrected from this mystic ground remain "a little dead" once they're back up and walking, and when Louis put his son Gage in there after the two-year-old is run over by a truck, needless to say it doesn't go well.

In addition to The Crown, John Lithgow's credits in recent years include The Accountant, Miss Sloane, Beatriz at Dinner, Daddy's Home 2, Pitch Perfect 3 and Season 1 of the TV series Trial & Error. The Pet Sematary remake has languished in development hell for years, but now that it's finally getting off the ground, Lithgow sounds like he'll be a worthy addition to the cast, although it's worth noting that he's ten years younger than Jud Crandall was in the book.

With production set to kick off this summer, Pet Sematary is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 19, 2019. We're almost done with 2018, but Hollywood still has a few high-profile movies to deliver to audiences. Among them is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which arrives this weekend and is introducing Miles Morales to the cinematic realm just seven years after he was brought into the comics. Into the Spider-Verse was already poised to get off to a solid start on opening weekend, but now the estimations have improved slightly, with the animated superhero movie currently predicted to make somewhere between $30 million to $35 million.

The original opening weekend range for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was $28 million to $35 million. So while the maximum range is still settled at $35 million, the minimum range has gone up slightly. Also keep in mind that in the end, these are all just guesses, as calculated as they may be. The positive buzz on Into the Spider-Verse (it's ranked at 99% among critics on Rotten Tomatoes) might result in even more people checking it out in theaters, thus boosting the box office profit. Into the Spider-Verse already has critical reception going for it, so perhaps it'll follow suit on the commercial front.

As far as competition goes that same opening weekend, the biggest movies Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is going up against are The Mule and Mortal Engines. The former is predicted to open in the "mid to high teens," while the latter is only expected to pull in between $10 million to $13 million. So Into the Spider-Verse will almost certainly come out on the top, though with next week bringing Mary Poppins Returns, Aquaman and Bumblebee, it will be interested to see how the Web-Slinger's animated adventure fares in its second week.

In terms of who's interested in seeing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Deadline mentioned that "interest is strong among families, African American and Hispanic demos." The families part makes sense, as typically the superhero movie genre is populated by live action, PG-13 romps, whereas this is an animated adventure that younger Spider-Man fans can enjoy on the big screen. As for the African American and Hispanic demos, that's also not surprising given that Miles Morales is a half-African America, half-Hispanic hero.

While Miles Morales is the star of the show in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he's far from the only Spider-hero appearing. This version of Miles' origin story sees him being mentored by an older, disheveled Peter Parker from another universe, and they're later joined by Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham. Together, they'll band together to fight a horde of villains led by Kingpin.
